妊娠初期は、お腹も目立たず、胎動（お腹の中で赤ちゃんが動くこと）もない時期。ママ自身がお腹の赤ちゃんの安否を確認することはできません。赤ちゃんが無事なのか、元気に育っているのかがわからず、大きな不安を感じるママも多いようです。

その「わからないことへの不安」を少しでも解消するために役立ててほしいのが、産婦人科で超音波検査をした際にもらうエコー写真です。エコー写真には、赤ちゃんやママに関するさまざまな情報が集約されており、もちろん赤ちゃんのサイズも知ることができます。

ここからは、エコー写真の見方や妊娠初期の赤ちゃんのサイズの目安についてご紹介します。

エコー写真の略語

エコー写真には、さまざまな略語が使われています。

• GA…妊娠週数（〇w〇d＝妊娠◯週〇日の意味）
• GS…胎嚢（赤ちゃんが入っている袋）
• EFW…推定児体重（推定体重）
• AC…体幹周囲長（おなかの周りの長さ）
• AFI…羊水インデックス（羊水の量を示す指標）
• BPD…大横径（左右の頭頂骨の直径の長さ）
• CRL…頭殿長（頭部から殿部までの長さ・座高）
• FL…大腿骨長（大腿骨の長さ）

【妊娠週数別】エコー写真から見る赤ちゃんのサイズ

赤ちゃんの心拍が確認できるようになる妊娠6週～妊娠15週（妊娠初期の最終週）について、胎嚢や赤ちゃんのサイズの目安をまとめました。

• 妊娠6週…胎嚢の長さ15～27mm
• 妊娠7週…頭殿長8～14mmほど
• 妊娠8週…頭殿長15～20mm
• 妊娠9週…頭殿長22～30mm
• 妊娠10週…頭殿長31～42mm、体重5～8gほど
• 妊娠11週…頭殿長44～60mm、体重10gほど
• 妊娠12週…頭殿長60mm、体重10～15gほど
• 妊娠13週…頭殿長75mm、体重20gほど
• 妊娠14週…頭殿長80～93mm、体重25gほど

What is the guideline for “baby growth and size” in the early stages of pregnancy?

The early stage of pregnancy is a time when the belly is not noticeable and there is no fetal movement (baby’s movement inside the belly). The mother herself cannot confirm the safety of her baby. Many mothers feel a great deal of anxiety because they do not know whether their babies are safe and healthy.

To help alleviate some of this “anxiety about not knowing,” we would like you to use the ultrasound photographs that you receive at the time of your ultrasound examination at the obstetrician’s office. Echocardiograms contain a variety of information about the baby and the mother, and of course, the size of the baby can also be determined.

The following is an introduction to how to read echo photos and the approximate size of the baby in the first trimester of pregnancy.

Abbreviations for Echocardiograms
Echocardiograms are often abbreviated in various ways.
If you have an ultrasound at hand, please check it against the following abbreviations.

• GA…Gestational week (0w0d = Fat week 0 days of pregnancy)
• GS…The gestational sac (the pouch containing the baby)
• EFW…Estimated baby weight (estimated weight)
• AC…Around the trunk (length around the abdomen)
• AFI…Amniotic fluid index (measure of the amount of amniotic fluid)
• BPD…Body width diameter (length of the diameter of the right and left parietal bones)
• CRL…Cephalopelvic length (length from head to temple, sitting height)
• FL…Femur length (length of femur)

Baby’s size as seen in the echocardiograms (by number of weeks of pregnancy)
The following is a summary of the approximate size of the fetal sac and baby from the 6th to 15th week of pregnancy (the last week of the first trimester), when the baby’s heartbeat can be confirmed.

• 6 weeks gestation…The length of the fetal sac is 15 to 27 mm.
• 7 weeks gestation…length of the cephalic cavity about 8-14mm
• 8 weeks gestation … Length of the fontanel 15-20mm
• 9 weeks gestation … 22 to 30 mm in length
• 10 weeks gestation … Length of the head 31-42mm, weight 5-8g
• 11 weeks gestation… Length of the head 44-60 mm, weight about 10 g.
• 12 weeks gestation… Cephalic length 60mm, weight 10-15g
• 13 weeks gestation… Length of the head 75mm, weight about 20g
• 14 weeks gestation… Cephalic length 80-93mm, weight 25g
• 15 weeks gestation… head length 104-114mm, weight about 40g.
